Construction of new compressor station and its testing will complete in Guneshli field by late 2009, SOCAR's source on ecology said on June 9. SOCAR develops shallow part of this field independently. Presently, compressor equipment is being installed in the platform.

"Compressor station will be controlled after construction operations by validators of executive board of UN clean development mechanism complete," source said.

As a result of new compressor station installation in Guneshli-4 platform, emission of low pressure gas will reduce 90 percent, SOCAR vice-president on ecology Muhtar Babayev said.

SOCAR intends to collect casing-head gas in shallow of Guneshli field. This gas will be delivered to Azerbaijani gas processing plant or national gas transportation system after pressing out (increase of pressure). This gas will be supplied to users. Pipelines have been constructed to transport this gas onshore.

Earlier this gas was dispersed due to lack of infrastructure that damaged environment much. Cost of necessary infrastructure creation and realization of this project hits $150 million.

Volume of emission varies 150-250 million cubic meters of gas per year.
