SOCAR preparing to restoration drilling in Caspian

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is planning to launch drilling of the first restoration well on the prospective gas field of Umid on the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The drilling is expected to be launched in the end of this year or early of the next year, a source in SOCAR said.

"We planned to launch drilling in the end of this month, but we will scarcely manage to do this. The equipment on the platform is till being set up," the source said.

The Bayil limani offshore drilling company will carry out restoration drilling on the platform.

SOCAR completed the construction of the Umid-1 platform, with which the drilling will be carried out.

The depth of the well is 6,500 metre, out of which 4,000 metre is planning to drill this year.

Umid-1 platform built on the base of unfinished Chiraq-6 platform is the largest facility within the program with a height of 71 meters. The platform will be installed 15km of Bulla Deniz field at the depth of 58 meters. A total of six gas wells are expected to be drilled from the platform.

Expected gas reserves on the Umid field is 300 billion cubic metre and expected reserves of gas condensate on the field is 30-40 million tons.
