U.S. ups oil import from Azerbaijan

In January-April 2009, the United States imported about 7.7 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan, compared to 4.4 million barrels in the same period of 2008, the U.S. Energy Information Agency (EIA) said.

In January 2009, U.S. imported 2.1 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan. In February 2009, U.S. did not import oil from Azerbaijan. In March 2009, U.S. imported 2.5 million barrels of oil from the country.

According to EIA, a total of 26.8 million of oil was imported from Azerbaijan to U.S. in 2008, compared to 20.6 million barrels in 2007 and 9.7 milion barrels in 2006.

Oil is mainly transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which delivers oil to the Turkish Ceyhan port.

The Azerbaijanis light oil is exported from the Georgian port of Supsa to the Baku-Supsa pipeline.

Oil is also exported from the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi and Novorossiysk port.
