Azerbaijan's largest electricity producer approves 2009-2010 reconstruction plan

Azerenerji (country's largest energy producer) has approved 2009-2010 action plan as a part of the overhaul of Azerbaijani thermoelectric power station in Mingachevir (295 kilometers outside Baku), the company said.   

Overhaul of the thermoelectric power station includes repairs of the third and sixth energy units, mid-life repair at fifth energy unit and current repairs in the remaining energy units. Repairs in the fourth units is nearing end.

The first chimney of the station is expected to undergo technical examination. The second electrolysis unit is also expected to be repaired.

The repairs will improve efficiency of the station.

Azerenerji Vice-President Marlen Asgarov said earlier that Azerenerji has already completed overhaul of the fourth energy unit. As a result, unit's capacity has been increased from 300 megawatts to 330 megawatts.

Fully process of modernization is expected to be completed before the end of 2010. As a result of overhaul of energy units, capacity will increase to 3000 megawatts from the current 2,400 megawatts, Asgarov said.

The station consists of eight units. All of the units are expected to be upgraded to increase capacity. The power of each unit is 300 megawatts.
