Azerbaijan, Baku, July 3 / Trend /
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will put a new platform into exploitation in the offshore Oil Rocks field. Yesterday, the State commission accepted a new facility, SOCAR said.
Height of the platform which was installed at a 23-meter depth of water is 35 meters. A total of 12 wells will be drilled from a new platform. Neftegasstroy trust of the Heydar Aliyev Deep Water Jacket Plant constructed the new facility.
One more platform of the similar project will be installed in the Oil Rocks field by late 2009. Both blocks of the platform have already been installed in the sea. Currently, an upper structure of the facility is being constructed.
In 2004, the Azerbaijani president commissioned SOCAR to increase oil production by 1.5 times to 1.2 million tons per year.
According to estimates of SOCAR geologists, the residual amount of oil at the Oil Rocks is roughly 20 million tons. SOCAR will drill 72 new wells to increase oil production at the field by 2010. Three platforms (except those to be installed this year) were installed on the Oil Rocks last three years.
The SOCAR Project Institute has developed papers to construct one more platform to be installed between the Guneshli and Oil Rocks fields at a 46-meter depth of water.
