Istiglal drilling rig by Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) will be on preventive maintenance by late 2009 and will continue drilling at the Shah Deniz next year, said a source in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry.
Previous the company completed drilling of the development well (SDX-5) in the Shah Deniz field as part of the contract with BP.
In January 2009, the well reached a total depth of 6,559 meters. Drilling wells were commenced in June 2008 with the Istiglal drilling rig. The well is located in the southeastern part of the field.
