Fuel import to Georgia has considerably increased for last three months compared to previous months and the same period of 2008, the Georgian oil products importers, manufacturers and consumers union said.
Petrol import was 36,153,000 tons in April, 38,246,000 tons in May, and 39,624,000 tons in June. Over the three months import totaled 114,024,000 tons.
Diesel fuel import was 31,075,000 tons in April, 33,256,000 tons in May, and 32,823,000 tons in June. The total volume was 97,154,000 over three months.
Fuel import increased by 11,748,000 tons as compared to the same period of 2008 and diesel fuel import by 2,243,000 tons. Index of diesel fuel import has stably increased over the last three months.
Rise in import mirrors that fuel consumption in Georgia does not decrease, but increases and it is an important milestone in evaluating the country's existing economic status. At the same time, fuel smuggling has been minimized, promoting the competitive environment and respectively, stability of budget transfers.
