Implementation of the Euro-Asian oil transportation corridor project, which also involves the construction of Odessa-Brody oil pipeline, will greatly facilitate the project participants' access to the energy assets of the European zone, an expert in oil and gas industry said.
"Participation of foreign investors in the project would greatly facilitate their access to the energy assets, primarily in the oil and gas, oil refining and petrochemical sectors, energy infrastructure and retail [service stations]," said the expert.
The project is directly linked with the possibilities of foreign investment in the energy sector of Ukraine, since these processes, project implementation and investment in infrastructure and refineries in Ukraine are directly interconnected.
This project will greatly facilitate the participating countries' access to Eastern Europe and the Euro-zone, because the project participants are involved in a European project under the auspices of the EU, and this makes them equal participants in all the processes in the energy sector in Europe.
"Participation in the project envisages the game in accordance with the regulations defined and established by the EU, and significantly increases the confidence in the investors from non-EU countries," he said.
Referring to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN, the source said that Poland left the construction of Brody-Plotsk pipeline in the list of key energy projects co-financed by the European Union within Infrastructure and Environment Program 2007-2013.
"This co-financing will further enhance the commercial viability of the project," - said the expert.
The expert said that thanks to this co-financing, the route could become more competitive, attractive to suppliers and consumers.
The project estimated at €440 million may obtain €120 million additional financing from the EU, UNIAN reported.
Construction of oil pipeline from Brody in Ukraine to Polish Plotsk ranks the second amongst the 13 key energy projects recorded in the list.
Curator of the Brody-Plotsk is the Ministry of Economy of Poland, and the implementator - the Polish-Ukrainian-Azerbaijani-Georgian-Lithuanian company Sarmat. "Sarmat can use the funds reserved for the project in 2012-2014.
Diversification of energy sources is a priority in the Infrastructure and Environment Program, with €1.7 billion budget for the projects in this sphere.
The idea of Euro-Asian oil transportation corridor Odessa - Brody - Plotsk - Gdansk emerged in mid 1990. It envisaged constructing a new oil transport corridor, which would deliver Caspian oil to Western and Central Europe.
