Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 August / Trend , E.Ismaylov, R.Hafizoglu /
The capacity of the gas pipeline, which is planned to be built between Azerbaijan and Turkey, will total 500 million cubic meters per year, an official of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Mehmet Akif said on August 10.
"The annual carrying capacity of the new gas pipeline will be 500 million cubic meters, while its daily capacity will be 1.5 million cubic meters of gas," Akif said.
Akif said within the construction of the pipeline, each side will build their stretch independently. "Turkey will build up to the border, Azerbaijan will also carry out the construction from Nakhchivan to the border," he said.
Talking about the price is not yet possible, "but the pipeline will be built on what was decided," said Akif.
Akif said that the negotiations to reach a transit agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey also continue. This issue was the topic of negotiations in Nakhchivan during the visit of Minister of Industry and Natural Resources of Turkey Taner Yıldız. "We hope that there will be another meeting," added Akif.
Yesterday, Azerbaijan and Turkey agreed to build a gas pipeline Igdir (Turkey) - Nakhchivan (Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan). Due to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, currently Nakhchivan is in blockade.
Azerbaijan transports gas to Turkey via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum pipeline within the development of Shah Deniz offshore field. Thus, gas from Azerbaijan for Nakhchivan will be transported via already existing gas pipeline, and onward transferred from Turkey via Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. Now Nakchivan receives gas from Iran within the "swap" transactions with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan supplies gas to Iran, which in turn transfers it to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Upon the contract, Turkey is to receive 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas from Shah Deniz within the first stage of development of the project.
The contract on development of off-shore Shah Deniz field was signed on 4 June 1996. The sides to the contract are ВР (operator - 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), SOCAR (10%), LukAgip (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%).
