The Sate Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to construct new vacuum pumps at two sites located in the 'Oil Rocks' offshore fields, which will utilize an additional 65 million cubic meters of low pressure associated gas, a source in SOCAR said. The company develops the field independently.
The vacuum pumps will be built at two sites - № 1077 and №1005 - and will increase the volume of associated gas utilized, the source said.
133 million cubic meters of associated gas was utilized as a result of action in taken in 2008.
The volume of gas at the Guneshli offshore field is expected to reach 305.2 billion cubic meters in 2009. All of the gas will be utilized as a result of the new station being launched. The station is scheduled to be put into operation by late 2009, the source said.
In 2008, the volume of gas in this field that was recycled amounted to 185 million cubic meters, the same source said.
The new compressor station will consist of two units with a capacity of 2 million cubic meters per day each. The total capacity of the plant will be 4 million cubic meters of gas per day. SOCAR is constructing the plant with its own funds. The cost of construction for the necessary infrastructure and the realization of this project is estimated at $150 million.
After boosting (the pressure being increased) at this station the gas will be transferred to the Azerbaijani gas processing plant or to the national gas transmission system and transmitted to customers.
At the entrance to the station gas will be delivered at a pressure of 2-2, 5 atmospheres and will be transferred at a pressure of 17 atmospheres. Then this gas will be transported to the compressor station N 2 at the 'Oil Rocks' offshore field. The gas will be further boosted to 55 atmospheres and transported onshore.
The volume of gas emission into the air from the Guneshli field ranges between 150 and 250 million cubic meters per year. On the 'Oil Rocks' field this figure is about 150 million cubic meters.
