The Sate Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) completed drilling the first well with the Oil Rocks-2415 two-block platform in the field with the same name, which the company develops independently, SOCAR said.
The depth of the new well is 1,774 meters with a daily debit of 16 tons of oil.
Oil Rocks-2415 is set at a sea depth of 23 meters. The height of the platform itself is 35 meters.
At present, SOCAR continues work on construction of one more platform, Oil Rocks-2521, on the field. The platform includes two blocks, which are fixed in the site at the designed depth. At present, the company installs electrical equipment. SOCAR plans to put a new platform into operation by late 2009.
The Oil Rocks field is the first where Azerbaijan has begun offshore oil production. It is planned to drill 21 wells on the field in 2009.
Drilling new wells is carried out under the Azerbaijani President's orders on increase of the Oil Rocks oil and gas production unit (OGPU) from 812,000 tons of oil up to 1.2 million tons (1.5 times). According to estimates of SOCAR geologists, the residual volume of oil at the Oil Rocks is 30 million tons. SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to increase oil production at the field by late 2010.
