Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 3 / Trend /

According to estimates on alternative energy sources, in the future, alternative energy will provide around 5-7 percent of electrical energy produced in Azerbaijan, says an article on the Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister, Natiq Aliyev, published in the newspaper Azerbaijan.

In the future, alternative energy sources may comprise 10 percent of the total volume of the heat energy production.

According to research, alternative energy sources can provide almost 50 percent of the needs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR). The sunlight hours around the Caspian coast of Azerbaijan is 2,000 hours per year, and in Nakhchivan, the figure is 2,900 hours per year.

The project's feasibility study to use alternative energy sources of hybrid systems has already been developed, supplying the village of Khynalyg of Azerbaijan's Guba region with electricity and gas, the article says.

Further in the future, wind energy plants are planned to be built on the Araz plains in the Ordubad and Julfa regions of the NAR. Power plants for solar energy in various parts of Nakhchivan have been planned too.

The use of alternative energy sources can save fuel for thermal power plants, as well as comparatively reduce the emission of harmful substances. The geographical location and climatic conditions allow Azerbaijan to make extensive use of clean and alternative energy sources that are already widely available in developed countries.
