The Sate Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to drill the first wells from the new platform Oil Rocks-2521 on offshore Oil Rocks field by late 2009, a source in SOCAR said.
Currently, the company continues construction of the platform. Particularly, the company conducts work on installment of platform's crest structure and equipment. Under favorable weather conditions for the construction, the start of drilling from the platform are scheduled for late 2009, the same source added.
The drilling of new wells and construction of new platforms on the field are carried out to increase oil production on this large field.
The platform will be established at sea depth of 18.5 meters. The height of the platform's blocks is 27 meters. It is planned to drill 12 wells with the platform. Possibly 14 more wells will be drilled in case of presence of large oil sources.
The reserves of Oil Rocks have been developed significantly. The field is developed by SOCAR independently.
Drilling new wells is carried out under the Azerbaijani President's orders on inc rease of the Oil Rocks oil and gas production unit (OGPU) from 812,000 tons of oil up to 1.2 million tons (1.5 times). According to estimates of SOCAR geologists, the residual volume of oil at the Oil Rocks is 30 million tons. SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to increase oil production at the field by late 2010.
The new platforms are necessary to maintain stable oil production on the field, where reserves are developed considerably.
