During his visit to Guba district, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated Shahdagh power station, AzerTAj state news agency reported.

Head of Azerenergy JSC (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) Etibar Pirverdiyev informed the President that the area of the new power plant is 14 hectares. Construction of the station was launched in 2008. Construction work was carried out by local company AZENKO.

Electrical equipment used in the construction of the new station, was produced by Swiss ABB Company, and the generation equipment - Finnish Wartsila Company. The station, built with the use of modern scientific and technical equipment, can produce more than 700 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year.

The new facility will substantially improve the supply of electricity to winter and summer tourist complex Shahdag, as well as Guba and Gusar districts. The need of the tourist complex Shahdagh for electricity in the first stage will be 50 megawatts, and in the next phases the figure is expected to increase to 100 megawatts.

Head of State got acquainted with the work principle of the new plant.

The capacity of the power plant is 105 megawatts. The station consists of 12 aggregates with a capacity of 8.7 megawatts per each. Some 0.23 cubic meters or 267 grams of natural gas will be spent on the production of one kilowatt hour of electricity.

Also there are plans to construct 40-kilometer 110-kilovolt transmission line between power stations Khachmaz and Shahdagh, and to provide electricity to the tourist complex Shahdagh it is planned to lay two 40-kilometer-long electric lines and related substations.
