Feasibility study for the Caspian gas pipeline that will link Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia will be ready early next year, said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan Sauat Minbayev on Sept. 24.

"Feasibility study for the Caspian gas pipeline will be ready in January next year," said Minbayev.

Deputy chairman of Gazprom, Valery Golubev, said that with the prospect of development of offshore gas fields the gas transportation volumes via the Caspian gas pipeline will considerably increase.

"Taking into account that Turkmenistan opens new fields, it will be possible to additionally pump nearly 20 billion cubic meters of gas into the Caspian gas pipeline, which means that the capacity of the Caspian gas pipeline can grow to 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year," said Golubev.

The purpose of the Caspian gas pipeline is to transport natural gas from fields in the Caspian Sea and other fields in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to the territory of Russia.

Estimated volume of gas to be transported via the Caspian gas pipeline will be: up to 30 billion cubic meters per year from Turkmenistan and 10 billion cubic meters per year from Kazakhstan.

The length of the Caspian gas pipeline will be about 1,700 kilometers, of which more than 500 kilometers will be in the territory of Turkmenistan, and about 1,200 kilometers in Kazakhstan.
