Realization of the Nabucco pipeline project, aimed to deliver energy resources of the Caspian region and Middle East to the EU countries, requires efforts of all interested sides, Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyib Erdogan told trend News in an interview with Trend .
"To realize this project all the participants should show particular efforts," Erdogan added.
"We have already past part of the way for this project. Recently we signed a contract with a number of European countries," Erdogan added. In July, Ankara signed the intergovernmental agreement on the project with the transit-countries.
Turkey is one of the shareholders of the Nabucco project. Construction of the pipeline is expected to begin in 2011 and the first supplies - in 2014. Its maximum capacity will be 31 billion cubic meters per year. Nabucco shareholders are the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE with 16.67 percent each.
Earlier this month, as part of trip to New York Erdogan he met with the president of Turkmenistan and the sides discussed this project.
Both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are one of the potential suppliers of natural gas.
