Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Oct. 20 / Trend , H.Hasanov/
Domestic consumption of electricity in Turkmenistan will increase by half by 2020, while its exports reached 11.57 billion kW/hour, the Turkmen Ministry of Energy reported.
Major importers are Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and several Central Asian states.
The combined capacity of the country's power reached 3,485.6 megawatts and nearly a third of the total electricity is generated in ultramodern gas turbine installations.
It continues to build new power units. In particular, capacity of the power plant is expanded in the Balakanabat city in the western part of Turkmenistan - one of the most dynamically developing regions. The first stage of the power plant started in Avaza, where the project to create a national tourism zone on the Caspian Sea is successfully implemented.
Additional gas-turbine power plant is constructed to the east of Ashgabat in the Akhal province (region), due to the increasing needs of the population and enterprises of the capital in the field of electricity. The Ashgabat City, the Olympic village and other large objects are built in the Turkmen capital.
