Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 2 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) completes seismic-acoustic work on the Babak prospective gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a source in SOCAR said on Nov.2.

The work on the field continues, but they are almost under completion, the source added.

The survey was conducted to determine the safe points for drilling exploratory wells and to determine the characteristics of the seabed for the further deployment of the field on the platforms. The company holds sonar and seismic-acoustic work and bathymetry work on the structure to study the topography of the seabed. The surface of soil to a depth of 200 meters will be studied as part of the work.

An area of 380 square km will be studied and the seismo-acoustic studies of the upper layers of the cut will be held at a depth of 430 square meters to a depth of 700 meters and topography of the seabed on the area of 150 square km will be scanned, the company said earlier.

The survey was conducted to determine the safe points for drilling exploratory wells.

Currently SOCAR has no opportunity to carry out seismic survey on this field, because it is very deep and the seismic survey requires adequate ships, which currently SOCAR does not have.

According to SOCAR's geologists, the estimated reserves of the Babak gas condensate field are 300 billion cubic meters of gas and 45 million tons of gas condensate.
