Azerbaijan TPP ups power production

In February, the Azerbaijani thermal power plant (TPP) generated 532 million kilowatt hours of electricity compared to 510.87 million kilowatt hours in January, the JSC Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in the Azerbaijani regions) reported today.

In 2009, the TPP generated over 6.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity compared to 6.5 billion kilowatt hours than projected.

The reconstruction of the TPP power units has begun as part of the state program on development of the country's fuel and energy complex in 2005-2015. The reconstruction work on the fifth, fourth and third power units have already been completed and similar work is under way on the second and eighth power units.

Currently, the third, fourth, fifth and seventh power units are in operation. The first and sixth power units were set aside as reserve.

The reconstruction work is expected to be completed in 2010. After the reconstruction of five power units, the power system will acquire an additional 450 megawatts of power.
