The Turkish energy minister said on Saturday that Turkey, Azerbaijan, Greece and Italy would hold a quartet natural gas summit, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkey's Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said that he had a meeting with his Greek counterpart regarding a natural gas pipeline from Azerbaijan to Italy via Turkey and Greece.

"Within this framework, we will hold a quartet natural gas summit either in Turkey or Greece," Yildiz told reporters in Athens.

Yildiz is accompanying Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his two-day formal visit to the Greek capital. He participated in the Turkey-Greece High Level Cooperation Council meeting.

Turkey was a natural gas importing country, and the more pipeline passed through Turkey, the more beneficial it would be for Turkey and its citizens, Yildiz said.

Yildiz also said Turkey and Greece could develop joint projects on wind energy.
