SOCAR continues pumping of gas to underground gas storage facilities

Daily volume of pumped gas in two underground storage facilities in Azerbaijan is 8 million cubic meters per day, a source in the oil and gas industry said. Both underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan are on the balance of SOCAR.

The source said that it is planned to pump about 3 billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas storage facilities this year compared to 2 billion cubic meters in 2009.

Several new compressors will be commissioned in the nearest future. Then the volume of gas pumping will increase.

The process of gas pumping into underground storage facilities in Azerbaijan for use in the autumn-winter season begins in April and ends in October.

Currently, the country has two underground storage facilities, Garadag and Kalmaz.

In 2009 SOCAR pumped into underground storage facilities of the country record volume of gas at a rate of about two billion cubic meters as compared to 1.4 billion in 2008. It was pumped about 1.16 billion cubic meters of gas to the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility in 2009 and over than 795.3 million cubic meters to the Garadag.
