Uzbektelekom appoints CEO

Uzbektelecom appointed Mahsum Mahmudov as CEO this week. Earlier he served as director of the Unicon.Uz Scientific, Technical and Marketing Research Center, the company reported.

Mahmudov was born in 1964 and graduated from the Novosibirsk Electrical Technical Institute of Communications. He worked as the director of the Uzbek Communications Ministry's Economic Department in 1992-1996. Later he graduated from the Uzbek Presidential Academy of State and Social Construction in 1997 with a degree in economics. Mahmudov received a PhD in technical sciences in 2006. Mahmudov served as the deputy communications minister from 1996-1997, deputy and first deputy general director of the Uzbek Agency for Post and Telecommunications in 1997-2002, and first deputy general director of the Uzbek Agency of Communication and Information until 2004.

Makhmudov replaced Shukhrat Sadikov, who was appointed as head of the Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers' Information and Analytical Department in March 2010.

Uzbektelecom is the largest telecommunications operator in the country. Its network cover the entire territory of Uzbekistan. The company offers fixed-line and mobile services operators and providers international and long-distance services, data transmission services, voice services, Internet access, videoconferencing, and CDMA standard mobile services.

The company has 19 branches.
