SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to complete operations on the onshore areas "Shikhi Gaya" and "Suleiman akhtarma" by late 2010, a source in SOCAR said. The areas are located near each other in the areas between the Gobustan settlement and Shamakhi region of Azerbaijan
"At present, test drillings are underway at these areas. Research operations will be completed by late 2010", the source said.
The source didn't inform about the total number of wells, to be drilled in these areas. However, he stressed that the drilling operations are being held difficultly.
The main purpose of the test drilling is coring and examination of the cut. Customer of operations is production unit Azneft.
There are 59 oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, of which 18 are offshore, others - onshore.
