The process of establishing technical committee on oil and gas under the chairmanship of the SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) is at the stage of completion, the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents said on July 1.
"Almost the committee already begins to function, and now final works are underway on registration," said the same source.
The committee will review all existing oil and gas field standards and determine if they comply with modern requirements. In case of discrepancies, the committee will define which standards should be applied in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry - from drilling to petroleum production. An action plan will also be prepared, based on which Azerbaijan's oil and gas standards will be announced over the next several years.
State Committee's technical regulation and standardization department head Sabig Abdullayev said earlier that the committee will consist of seven subcommittees. "The technical committee is a forum for all interested sides, public and private agencies, and manufacturers and sellers," Abdullayev said.
He said Azerbaijan has the national standards AZS, and regional standards of GOST in this regard. "Our goal is the compliance of national standards with the international such as ISO and API," Abdullayev said.
