Japan is interested in developing mineral resources in Afghanistan, Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kazuo Kodama said today.
"We are interested in developing mineral resources in Afghanistan," he said.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Afghanistan has roughly $3 trillion worth of mineral resources at the International Conference on Afghanistan in Kabul July 20.
"However, we must take into account the reality," Kodama said. "If we do not help the Afghan government to establish security, ensure effective governance and combate corruption, then it will be impossible to talk about plans to develop the country's stocks."
