Georgia, Tbilisi, September 16 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

The second phase of rehabilitation of the Inguri hydroelectric power station, which provides for the complete rehabilitation of the first and fifth units, will begin in the near future.

These units are in bad condition and do not provide safe passage of water processed by the hydroelectric plants. As a result, the units will be fully renovated and a modern system that will fully facilitate the work of hydroelectric plants will be installed.

The Georgian government has formalized credit and project agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the 20-million euro project.

German company Voith Hydro, which successfully completed rehabilitation of three other units in 2004-2009, will carry out the repairs.

The first unit will be commissioned in March 2012 and the fifth by May 2013.
