Ekol Engineering Services has finished the transportation of 20,000 cubic meters of oil sludge under a new project to rehabilitate the Absheronneft Oil and Gas Production Union, which has been polluted with reservoir waters and other wastes, the company reported. The oil sludge was brought from an area of five hectares and transported to a site for bioremediation works.

The company launched the works on land and chippings transportation over the cleared area, and began the accumulated sludge's bioremediation process.

The work under this project started in April. During the first phase of the project, the company removed 4,558 cubic meters of reservoir water, and 5,156 cubic meters of oil sludge from an area of six hectares. A total of 20,267 cubic meters of chippings and land were brought to the territory under rehabilitation works. The project's second phase launched in September.

Ekol was created on March 1, 2006 to solve environmental problems on the Absheron Peninsula. Its co-founders are SOCAR (51 percent) and Lancer SA Services (49 percent).
