SOCAR invests over $22 mln in Georgia’s oil sector

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has invested the major amount of investments in the Georgian economy in the oil sector in 2010, Georgian Oil Products Importers Union said. The amount of SOCAR's investments hit 40 million lari ($ 1 = 1.76 lari).

The company is followed by such well-known Georgian companies as "Wissol Petroleum Georgia" (20 million lari), Rompetrol and Russia's Lukoil.

"During 2010, there was a significant development in the segment of gas stations. SOCAR has built 35 new stations, while Wissol Petroleum Georgia - 12. Rompetrol, Lukoil Georgia and other companies also expanded their network.

In 2010, the process of consolidation of companies was actively carried out, given intense competition, which is evinced in expansion of retail network of companies," the Union said.
