Azerbaijan Railways to determine tender winner for purchase of new locomotives within month

Results of the tender announced by CJSC Azerbaijan Railways to purchase 50 locomotives (25 kilovolts) will be announced within a month, CJSC spokesman Nadir Azmammadov said on Thursday.
Bid opening was held on Feb.23 at the CJSC tender commission's meeting on the project of supporting railway transport and trade within the State Program on development of the railway system in Azerbaijan in 2010-2014. Thirteen companies, which were provided with a collection of requirements, attended the tender. Bids were submitted by companies Siemens AG, Alstom Transport S. A., China CNR Corporation Ltd., "PC Nevz" LLC and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co.Ltd.

"Within a month, work will be conducted with these companies and as a result the winner of the tender will be announced," Azmammedov said.
The main goals of the State Program on development of the railway system in Azerbaijan in 2010-2014 approved upon the order by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are to continue reforms and improve the legal framework for the creation of broad opportunities for commercial railway, take measures to update the railway infrastructure in accordance with current requirements, provide transportation of cargos, the volume of which will be increased after the launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway
The program is aimed at improving the quality of cargo and passenger transportation and security, introducing scientific and technological advances and new technologies in transport infrastructure, defining and implementing a strategy to improve passenger services and increase their profitability, restoring the northern section of the railroad, purchasing locomotives, purchasing diesel locomotives, training and social security.
The program will be financed at own expense of Azerbaijan Railways JSC, domestic and foreign investments, technical assistance and grants from other sources, not contrary to law.
