Turkish company wins major contract in Turkmenistan

The State-owned electricity corporation "Turkmenenergo" plans to conclude a major contract with the Turkish company Lotus Proje Akaryakit Enerji Madencilik Telekomunikasyon Insaat Sanayi Taahhut ve Ticaret as.

An official Turkmen source reported that the approximate cost of the project is about $ 390 million.

The project deals with the designing and building of high-voltage overhead power lines and substation complex in Lebap and Mary provinces (regions), as well as reconstruction of existing substations and procurement of spare parts for power plants.

The document stipulates the launch of the project in April 2011 and commissioning of the objects in September 2013.

The implementation of the project will increase power export to Afghanistan by five times, and make it possible to supply power to Pakistan and Tajikistan. The present export capacity in this area is about 325 million kilowatt-hours per year.

The construction of new transmission lines will allow to provide electricity to all large-scale production facilities, which are now being built in these regions, including the right bank of the Amu Darya.
