Azerenergy is continuing to construct the Janub new power plant, which will be located near the Shirvan hydro- power plant, the company reported on Monday.
"Work is underway to build the 780 -megawatt Janub power plant . Modern technology will be installed at the plant. It will operate with gas and fuel oil," the company said.
The Shirvan power plant has expired and its equipment is physically obsolete. Therefore, the company is conducting repairs on the power stations.
Under the plan , major repairs are expected to be carried out on the third and fourth power blocs.
The 1,050 -megawatt Shirvan thermal power plant has operated since 1962.
