A draft of Azerbaijan's long term economic development strategy for 2011-2025, prepared by the Economic Development Ministry, envisages bringing the share of alternative and renewable energy sources in the country's economy from two percent in 2009 to at least six percent in 2025.
According to the draft, a strategy envisages reducing the electricity consumption ratio, (in kilowatt /$) in the total GDP, from two percent in 2009 to 0.3 percent in 2025.
Also, the draft strategy includes a number of measures to be carried out in the sphere of energy, petrochemistry and environmental protection. In particular, bringing the quality of fuel produced in the country into line with ecological standards, Euro-5 envisages the construction of a new processing complex and gas processing plant. Several measures are planned to modernize the country's petrochemical complex.
The strategy envisages the development and increase in alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, increasing their share in total energy production, as well as neutralizing the impact of the energy sector on the environment.
