Azerbaijan, Baku, June 9 / Trend A. Badalova /

In addition to the Shah Deniz Field, there is considerable potential for natural gas in Azerbaijan, that can be exported to Europe, the head of the international pipeline projects in the Austrian company OMV Michael-Dieter Ulbrich said within the 18th International Caspian Oil and Gas, Refining & Petrochemicals Exhibition and Conference in Baku.

He said that the need for Europe's gas and its import will increase, especially after the tragic events in the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima-1.

It would be reasonable to have several pipeline projects. He said that there is a market, the demand for gas and its available volumes in the Caspian region. Therefore, more pipelines are required.

Turkmenistan has the gas potential that can be also delivered to the European market, he said.

There are no legal obstacles to the construction of a pipeline to transport Turkmen gas to Europe.

"We have promising talks between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan with EU support," he said. "They may lead to an intergovernmental agreement."
