SOCAR reduces associated gas emission

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has reduced emission of low-pressure gas on the fields of "28 May", "Mud Volcano", "Oil Rocks", "Bibi Heybat" and "Siyazan", said Friday SOCAR Vice-President for Ecology Rafiga Huseynzade said.

She said as a result of the construction of a compressor station, laying of underwater pipelines, compressors, installing of compressors low-pressure associated gas emission has been reduced by 177 million cubic meters, amounting to 410 million cubic meters.

Two project documents, which were submitted to the UN Board on Climate Change for registration, were prepared as a result of technical work conducted on the "Guneshli" and "Oil Rocks" fields under the Clean Development Mechanism.

Under the project, as a result of the planned annual recovery of 310 and 200 million cubic meters of associated gas will be possible here respectively.

Also, a working group consisting of specialists of the Global Gas Flaring Reduction (GGFR), State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and British BP has been created to ensure recovery to 400 million cubic meters of associated gas emitted into the atmosphere from the block of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli offshore fields.
