SOCAR may complete drilling the second exploration well at a major gas field "Umid" in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by late 2011, a source in SOCAR said
The source said that at present, the well depth is 2,237 meters of the projected 6,500 meters.
"It is difficult to say about the completion of drilling operations because drilling is carried out in difficult sea conditions," a source said. "But the work will be completed by late 2011."
SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev earlier said that drilling the second well is necessary to delineate the deposit.
All of the peculiarities of the deposits, which were identified in the process of drilling the first well, will be taken into account while drilling the second well.
According to SOCAR's specialists, there are 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 30-40 million tons of condensate at Umid.
