The Ecology Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) summed up ecological and biological monitoring, held in the territory of four hectares in the Azerbaijani gas processing plant, where reconstruction work is envisaged, the Ecology Department said on Thursday.

A report was prepared as a result of the monitoring. Sixteen soil samples from four points and water samples from one point were taken during the monitoring.

As it was reported earlier, work was launched in Azerbaijani gas processing plant under SOCAR within the flare system reconstruction project.

The project was prepared by SOCAR's "Neftegazelmitedqiqatlahiya" institute because after long exploitation, it became useless. The reconstruction will reduce harmful emissions and ensure smokeless burning.

By late year the gas processing plant plans to process 4.7 billion cubic meters of gas compared to 4.2 billion cubic meters in 2010. At present, the plant's capacity is 5.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

As a result of processing in 2010, the plant received 4.03 billion cubic meters of purified gas compared to more than 3.8 billion cubic meters in 2009. In addition, 28,100 tons of natural gasoline was produced in 2010 compared to more than 27,000 tons in 2009. In 2010, the enterprise produced 25,400 tons of liquefied gas. Some 69 percent of the total amount of produced gasoline and liquefied gas were exported, while 31 percent was directed to the domestic market.
