Uzbek, Korean presidents launch Ustyurt Gas-Chemical Complex's construction in interactive mode

An official ceremony of launching the construction of Ustyurt Gas-Chemical Complex (GCC) was held in Tashkent Uzexpocenter on Wednesday.

The ceremony held in interactive mode was attended by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov and President Lee Myung-bak.

The attendees watched solemnly unveiling of a memorial stone set at the construction site of the complex.

Addressing the event participants, Karimov said that this facility will become a new symbol of the deepening bilateral cooperation.

"This project is the most important in bilateral investment cooperation," Karimov said.
South Korean President Lee Myung-bak stressed that "this project will figure in history of bilateral relations." He also stressed that "jobs are created especially for young people based on new technologies".

As it was reported earlier, within the Korean President Lee Myung-bak's state visit to Uzbekistan four contracts were signed for engineering, procurement, and construction of the Ustyurt gas-chemical plant, with GS Engineering & Construction, Samsung Engineering, Hyundai Engineering, and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) costing $2.6 billion in total.
