SOCAR fulfills 1/3 operations within exploration well drilling on Umid field

At present, the depth of the second exploration well on the Umid field is 2,337 meters, a source in SOCAR said.

"The drilling operations are underway," a source said. At present, its depth is 2,337 meters."

He said that the drilling operations are planned to be completed by late 2011.
SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev earlier said that drilling the second well is necessary to delineate the deposit. The projected depth is 6,500 meters.

All of the peculiarities of the deposits, which were identified in the process of drilling the first well, will be taken into account while drilling the second well.

According to SOCAR's specialists, there are over 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate at Umid field.

The Umid Field is located 75 kilometers from Baku. In 1953 the first geophysical works were carried out at the field. They were repeated in 1972 in a somewhat improved form. From 1977 to 1992, nine wells were drilled without result.
