Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 20 /Trend, E.Ismayilov/

Today, Sept. 20, a professional holiday of workers of oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan - Oil Workers Day, is celebrated in the country. The coincidence of this date with the day of signing the Contract of the Century is not accidental. Exactly this contract revived the oil and gas industry in the country and ensured the subsequent growth of the welfare and prosperity of Azerbaijan. Development of energy sector has led to particularly active growth of the non-oil sectors of the economy.

This contract can rightly be considered the foundation, which determined the main tendencies in the energy strategy of Azerbaijan, established by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and transformed Azerbaijan into one of the world's oil exporters.

This year, Azerbaijan celebrates another significant date - the 15th anniversary of the discovery of Shah Deniz gas-condensate field, which along with the position of oil country, strengthened Azerbaijan's position as a country possessing large gas reserves. This status was also confirmed via the discovery of Umid gas-condensate field in the Caspian Sea last year, as well as the discovery of the Absheron field, which was announced recently.

Azerbaijan intends to further strengthen its position as a gas country. There are plans for exploration and development of prospective structures "Babak", "Shafag-Asiman", "Nakhchivan" with the German RWE.
