The intergovernmental agreement on gas transit signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey clarified many things in the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor projects, Turkish Energy Experts Association analyst Seyit Ali Dastan told Trend over the phone on Thursday.

"Turkey and Azerbaijan signed an agreement that will answer many questions relating to the Southern Gas Corridor projects," he said.

He said that this agreement must be regarded not only as a contribution to the economy of Turkey and Azerbaijan, but also as a long-expected step towards ensuring European energy security.

"First and foremost, the agreement will determine Europe's energy future," Dashdan said.

He said that Turkey will receive political advantage from this agreement because it will increase Turkey's prestige and will make a significant contribution to the economy of the country.

"Azerbaijani gas will be delivered to Europe via Turkey," he said. "The agreement has political importance for the country given the fact that Turkey has been seeking membership in the EU for the last few years."

Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a package of gas contracts, including issues of the cost of Azerbaijani gas for Turkey in the second stage of Shah Deniz.
