SOCAR launches new control system

Azerbaijan, Baku, November 18 / Trend, E. Ismailov /

The Baku-based SOCAR-owned Heydar Aliyev oil refinery has started using a system of control over the area of its stored products, the SOCAR reported on Friday.

As reported, this system has so far been launched at the refinery's workshop N1 only. The equipment and the software of the system designed for use in trade and commercial operations are manufactured by US's CIS Controls.
The display reveals production and density level and the temperature inside the storage tanks. The display also shows trends and calculations of production average density, average temperature, volume and mass.

Use of the new system will provide operational safety by the tightening of the operational control of tank loading and unloading processes which will ease the work of operators substantially. Besides, the new system is an essential means to calculate the initial mass and parameters of products in tanks, in the event of failures of oil calculation devices.
Using the two Baku-based oil refineries with the combined refining capacity of 20 million tons a year, SOCAR refines the oil it extracts from onshore and offshore fields at its own expense.
