Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

As of February 6, the gas volume selected from the Azerbaijani underground gas storage facilities will reach a daily level of about 19.37 million cubic metres compared to more than 15 million cubic metres as of January 23, a SOCAR source told Trend on Monday.

There are two underground gas storage facilities, Kalmazs and Garadagh in Azerbaijan.

A source said that the increased gas volume selected from the underground storage facilities is connected with the rise in consumption due to bad weather conditions across Azerbaijan.

"The weather conditions in the country are rather severe," a source said. "This affected the demand for gas. Gas volume is being drawn from gas storage facilities at the rate of 19,368 cubic metres per day to meet the country's needs."

He said that about 9.53 million cubic metres of the total volume falls to the Garadagh underground gas storage facility and 9.84 million cubic metres to Kalmaz.

About 3.25 billion cubic metres of gas were pumped into the underground gas storage facilities during the season compared to 3.05 billion cubic metres by the end of 2010.
