Azneft Production association of SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) extracted 6.8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011, Azneft chief director Dashgin Iskanderov wrote in his article in Khalg Gazeti daily on Friday.

Last year Azneft produced about 7.15 million tons of oil, he said.

Azneft operates 14 oil and condensate marine and 17 land oil and gas deposits.
In 2011, 76 wells were put into operation, from which about 213,160 tons of oil was produced, Iskanderov added.

SOCAR includes Azneft, which produces oil and gas onshore and offshore), the Azerkimya industrial association, a chemical enterprise, and Azerigaz industrial association, a gas distributor.

SOCAR is the only producer of oil products in the country (it has two refineries on its balance sheet) and also owns petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Romania. SOCAR possesses a network of petrol stations in Switzerland. SOCAR is co-owner of the largest Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim.
