A preliminary version of the national strategy on the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan for 2012-2020 will be submitted to the government by July, 2012, deputy head of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Azerbaijan Jamil Melikov told Trend on Wednesday.
"To enable the development of a strategy, special working groups which include about 50 representatives of government agencies and experts have been set up," said Melikov. He noted work to prepare the strategy is underway and a preliminary version will be formed by July.
"The strategy will reflect such topical issues as energy efficiency, increase in the share of alternative energy sources in total energy production, energy and environmental security," Melikov said.
Selection of 2020 is not a coincidence, since by this time the EU intends to achieve a level of 20 per cent usage of alternative energy from the overall share of energy consumption.
