New oil and gas fields are supposed to be discovered in Eastern Kazakhstan region, Kazakh National Geological Exploration Company Kazgeology's Board Chairman Bulat Uzhkenov said on the sidelines of the Third International Forum MINEX -2012 in Astana on Wednesday.
"Based on the latest geological prospecting studies, we have grounds for the discovery of new fields of gas and heavy oil in the Eastern Kazakhstan region," Uzhkenov said.
He recalled that traditional place of major oil and gas fields is concentrated in the west of the country.
"There are certain plans for the discovery of new fields in Zailiysky region (south Kazahstanan)," he added.
