Iran continues to make intensified oil and gas exploration along its borders a top priority, Mehr news agency quoted the head of the National Iranian Oil Company's (NIOC) exploration operations as saying on Saturday.
Three dimensional seismic operations grew 24 percent last year (Iran's solar year ended on March 20) and seven new formations of oil and natural gas were discovered in Iran, the NIOC's Director of Exploration, Seyed Mahmoud Mohades, said.
The new gas fields discovered last year were Madar in Bushehr Province and the Khayyam layer and Farzad field in Persian Gulf waters.
New oil formations were found in the Soumar oil field in the province of Kermanshah, Delavaran in the province of Ilam and a new light crude field in the Khuzestan province. All are located in western Iran.
