Azerbaijan, Baku, June 8 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is planning to refine 6.3 million tons of oil in 2012, which is practically similarly to the figure of last year, a senior representative of SOCAR told Trend on Friday.

The volume of the oil will amount to 6 million ton after the refining, he said.

With regard to the depth of processing, the representative of SOCAR said that it should reach 93 percent according to the forecast, while this figure stands at 92.6 percent at present.

"A lot of oil has been made for Azerenerji (production and distribution of electricity) due to the cold winter, and therefore the depth of processing has declined," the source said.

Petroleum in Azerbaijan is made on the basis of two Baku refineries with a total capacity of 20 million tons a year. Both refineries are part of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan which processes approximately six million tons of oil annually from onshore and offshore fields under its own funding.

The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery produces light oil and Azneftyag plant - dark.
