Azerbaijan, Baku, June 18 / Trend A.Hasanov /

The Euro-3 fuel standard on emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere will be applied in Azerbaijan from the beginning of next month, head of the Azerbaijani State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents Ramiz Hasanov said on Monday.

"In the near future the draft standard which should come into force from July 1 will be approved. With the entry of this standard, the State Customs Committee will begin its application, that is, as from July 1 a ban on the importation of vehicles that do not meet Euro-3 standard requirements will come into effect. The standard's approval models of these cars will then be published," the committee told Trend on Monday.

At the same time, as reported by the committee, this standard does not apply to vehicles which have already passed customs control and which are in Azerbaijan.

"Over time old cars will leave the market and the country's car fleet will be renewed," the committee said.

The output of fuel within the Euro-4 standard is planned to be carried out in 2015. By this time local oil refineries will be able to produce fuel to meet this standard.

Fuel for vehicles is produced at two oil refineries in Azerbaijan. Both oil refineries are on the balance sheets of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

Hasanov also noted that a new standard of 'Halal' in the food industry and in particular meat products, will be adopted from next month.
