Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) plans to commission the second 400-megawatt unit at the Shimal station as part of increasing the capacity and safety of Azerbaijan's energy system towards the end of 2013, the company told Trend on Friday.
According to the information, the construction work is being carried out under the supervision of Japanese experts.
"In accordance with the schedule, the power unit should be commissioned within the next year and currently all the necessary work is being carried out with the active participation of Japanese experts," the company noted.
Previously it was decided to build a second 400-megawatt unit in accordance with the Japanese firm Toyo Engineering. The foundation ceremony of a new unit was held on September 21 last year.
As part of the commissioning of the second power unit, a new 220-kilowatt transmission line will be constructed and a number of substations built that will ensure the energy security of the Absheron Peninsula and the entire power system as a whole.
The capacity of power plants owned by Azerenergy is more than six thousand megawatts.
Power plants owned by Azerenergy distribute more than 6000 megawatts. JSC has more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolts, as well as six hydroelectric and 13 thermal power plants on its balance sheet.
