In mid-2013, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to begin physical work within the creation of a new complex for processing of oil and gas and production of petrochemical products (OGPC), SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said on Friday.

"By 2020, about 15,000 employees will be needed to work in this complex, only 5,000 of which will be engineers," Abdullayev said.

With regard to the construction of a carbamide plant in Sumgayit, Abdullayev said that the tender procedure is nearing completion and by late 2012, SOCAR plans to begin construction work.

The new complex envisages the construction of a petrochemical company, an oil refinery with a capacity of ten million tons per year, as well as a gas processing plant with capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year. Depth of processing at the plant will be about 95 percent, while the yield of light oil products - 85 percent. In the long term capacity of the gas processing plant is planned to increase to 15 billion cubic meters a year. As part of the new complex it is planned to create heat and energy center with capacity of 250 megawatts.

The complex will be located on 1,500 hectares 60 kilometers from Baku. The entire OGPC complex is scheduled to open by the end of 2020.
The plant will be built on an area of 24 hectares. Its construction will be completed in 2014. Production capacity will reach 1200 tons of ammonia and 2000 tons of carbamide per day.

The units for the production of ammonia, commodity carbamide and liquid carbamide will operate at the plant. The products of the plant will include ammonia and carbamide.
